As Dean of the School of Medicine, I welcome you to our School, where our mission statement “Knowledge Creates Healing” is lived out in all areas of education, science and practice. The School of Medicine at the TUM can be described in a few words: highly successful despite its youth. At 55 years old, the School is one of the youngest medical schools in Germany. The determined pioneering spirit of the then founding generation has not lost its momentum to this day. For many years, our scientists have been demonstrating remarkable successes on both national and international levels. And we are proud of our outstanding graduates, who distinguish our institution for its medical studies, master's programs and its teaching.

The central location of our main campus at the University Hospital rechts der Isar, Campus Biederstein and the German Heart Center–in the heart of Munich–contributes to the attractiveness of our school. We are a constantly growing and lively network in which education, science and practice coincide. Our School demonstrates its innovative strength by participating in numerous currently relevant and forward-looking projects. With a focus on translational medicine, we connect our research findings to the treatment of our patients.

The School of Medicine enters a new era this year by becoming the School of Medicine and Health. We are expanding our mission statement to “Knowledge Creates Healing and Maintains Health,” fostering the growth of our network in important areas of medicine and prevention.
