Prof. Dr. Georg Maurer

TUM School of Medicine is one of the youngest medical schools in Germany. Its existence is primarily owed to the ambition and perseverance of one individual – Georg Maurer. Georg Maurer was from 1967 till 1979 the medical director of the municipal hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar and later the first dean of TUM School of Medicine. The background for establishing TUM School of Medicine in Munich was the lack of capacity for teaching students of medicine. In addition, the interaction of medicine with natural, life and engineering sciences was strengthened through the close connection to TUM.
