Mission and Vision of the School

We live cutting-edge medicine

Young, modern, strong in research–that is what the Technical University of Munich School of Medicine stands for. Founded in 1967, today it is considered a driver of innovation. From the very beginning, we appointed scientists who were dedicated to their cause and who wanted to advance our school and its University Hospital rechts der Isar. With success! Thanks to excellent physicians and renowned cooperations with institutions in Munich, we live cutting-edge medicine every day anew. In national and international university rankings, we always achieve top scores–and thus continue to set new standards in the future.

Proximity to patients is our flagship

Translation is our great strength. According to the principle, “from bench to bedside”, the latest research findings (research focus areas: cancer research, cardiovascular diseases, neuroscience and infection, immunity & environment) are continuously incorporated into the treatment of patients. The interdisciplinary collaboration of numerous specialists at our site creates the best conditions to advance medical research and care under the premise of scientific progress as well as patient welfare.

TUM Family: Together we are successful

The Technical University of Munich is one of the best universities in Europe today–and the Medical School with its University Hospital rechts der Isar makes a significant contribution: There are currently six Collaborative Research Fields (SFB), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), with a TUM spokesperson or co-spokesperson. Within this framework, scientists from the School of Medicine collaborate with their colleagues from the TUM Schools of Engineering and Natural Sciences. In addition, the School of Medicine holds top positions in national and international rankings (such as the CHE/Zeit Ranking 2021 and the THE Ranking). It also ranks 5th out of 38 in Germany in academic teaching–as determined by the results of the nationwide final examinations in spring 2022. A success story–an important part of the TUM Family.
